Thy Will Be Done!

I have this pack of cheap ball pens, but I’ve kept only one in my drawer in case I need a pen. First time I tried to use it it was leaking a bit so I just rubbed the tip on a piece of paper and used it. Second time it was a bit of too much of a leak for me to use it so I put the cap back on it, and returned it in my drawer and got out another pen and used that pen. I did the same for the next few times I needed to use that leaking pen. Finally when I tried to use it the leak was so bad that I didn’t even consider keeping it, I thought, “Why am I bothering with this cheap and useless pen when I have so many others that work perfectly fine?” So I broke the pen, so nobody tries to use it and gets ink on them, and threw it in the garbage bin.

Then it hit me, “Why is God bothering with some of us, like me, even though we’ve been useless to His Kingdom and are unfaithful in serving Him?” There was no logical answer, because logic says that He should’ve gotten rid of me, or forgotten me, a long time ago. The only answer was that I am still alive and well because of His grace and goodness. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, said, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45) But God’s patience also does come to an end, and the Bible is full of such examples.

Israel sinned against God and His patience ran out and He sent them into Babylonian captivity. Often times our sins have long lasting consequences, and even though God has forgiven us we still have to pay for them. Moses did not enter the promise land. David’s newborn baby died. Saul lost the kingship. And Esau lost his birth rights. Only God knows what you and I have lost due to our disobedience, or the disobedience of others.

For roughly 4 years I believed in a promise God had given me through His word multiple times, and through a sign which He verified . About 10 days ago I found out that this promise will not come true (I won’t go into details but it can’t come true). I’ve wondered ever since what went wrong. Of course there are two possibilities: 1) It was a conditional promise and I and/or another person have failed to meet the conditions; 2) I had misheard Him over, and over and over again. (By the way, saying God is unfaithful is not a possibility to me.)

There is a big chance that it was a conditional promise and that I or another person had failed to meet the conditions, and God’s patience finally ran out. I can’t possibly put into words the agony, pain, depression, confusion, and stress I felt when I found out that God’s promise can’t come true. I can’t possibly put into words the emotional, mental and spiritual distress I am going through (but I am being strong because God created me to be a man that one day my family will depend on me…I have to be strong.) The reason I am telling you this that our actions have consequences and for now we might not feel the sting of our sins and disobedience. However, eventually God’s patience will run out and then we will reap the consequences…believe me, we won’t like it.

Thy Will Be Done by Fadi

King David sinned against God by committing adultery with Bathsheba (she got pregnant and bore him a son) and murdering her husband, Uriah the Hittite. God told King David, “…because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die.” (2 Samuel 12:14) Then King “David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and went into his house and spent the nights lying on the ground. The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them.” (2 Samuel 12:16-17) After all the agony, regret, pleading, fasting, weeping and change of mind and heart the Bible says, “On the seventh day the child died.” (2 Samuel 12:18)

The Bible says, “I will discipline you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.” (Jeremiah 30:11)

What known sin is there in your life? What deliberate disobedience is there in your life? What are you going to do about your sins and disobedience? If the answer is “nothing”, then are you willing to reap the consequences because God’s patience will eventually run out?

There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, “All right, then, have it your way” ~C.S. Lewis

God loves the sinner but He hates sin and when you are saved it does not give any of us the right to continue sinning. I know some people once they got saved they kept living the life they once had as if God approves. His word is so very clear about once we become save and how much He hates sin but Loves the sinner.

I believe that all who except Christ into their hearts and lives are forgiven of past, future and present sin. I don’ t believe god punishes his saved people for their sins. Thanks to the blood of the lamb. Does that mean we should go out and keep sinning? No! However, there is great consequences for everyone who sins. That’s not punishment though. It’s just common sense really. Stealing is a sin. Like murder is a sin. God hates them both, but obviously murder would have a greater consequence then stealing something. I’m so, so, glad we don’t have to live in the old testament. Your writing does have some merit to me though, and that is. How can I sin less. Only example in my mind would be try not to sin at all. There is a great person that walked this earth 2000 or so years ago. I’ll try to be more like him. I’ll try to be more Christ like.
Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice on the cross.
    I love you!!! 🙂

I disagree with the statement you made [ “I don’ t believe god punishes his saved people for their sins.”] It’s all over the book of Deuteronomy eg. Deuteronomy 8:5 You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.

The word chasten means to discipline or punish. He does it to restrain us from continuing down the wrong path or to moderate our behavior. Just like a parent would with a child. Remember, when we become Christians, we are called sons of God, due to our adaptation into His family. He therefore is our parent and will chastise us to keep us in line – just like we chastise our children.
