OBJECTIVE MORALITY: NATURE & NECESSITY

Objective Morality: Nature & Necessity

August 19, 2013 |

Is there any such thing as objective morality or is everyone free to just set and follow personal moral standards? If there is no objective morality why should habitual liars or anyone for that matter, be expected to speak the truth, always or even almost always? If the rightness or wrongness of acts, motives/attitudes depend on how individuals feel then morality is hopelessly subjective and everyone has a right to do as one pleases. Objective morality rescues us from this dilemma. But what is meant by objective morality? The ‘objective’ in objective morality simply means independent of any particular person’s feelings and value judgments on the moral issue in question. As Philosopher Paul Copan says “…morality is objective in that it isn’t a function of individual or cultural preferences, opinions, or responses. Morality is objective in that it is recognized and discovered rather than invented by humans.” (“True for you…    read more

Idolatry, Why The Big Fuss?

Idolatry, Why The Big Fuss?

January 18, 2012 |

Idolatry, Why The Big Fuss? A few months ago before a test I saw a classmate holding the cross that hung around his neck and was praying in preparation for the test. Later I e-mailed him asking if he was a Christian and if it was OK with him to add his e-mail to my “Christian forwards/messages” list. He replied to my e-mail saying that he was not a Christian: he simply had the cross for “good luck”. “And God spoke all these words: ‘I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. ‘You shall have no other gods before me. ‘You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD…    read more

Tear Down The Walls

January 4, 2012 |

Today I wanted to talk about the idea of relationship. If there is one thing I’ve noticed, it’s that Christians really do want a relationship with God. I think that we see the fire that others have and we see how happy they are and we crave that. But we want it in some easy form, we want to swallow a pill and get on with our day. I hate to break it to you but that’s not how a relationship works. How close would you be with your friends or family if you never spent time with them? You want a fire for God? You want to experience Him more deeply? Then you have to make time for Him. Read your Bible and spend time in prayer. I know it’s sickeningly simple, but that’s just how it is. It might mean that you have to say “no” to other…    read more

UNBRIDLED POWER WALLPAPER

Unbridled Power Wallpaper

Unbridled Power Wallpaper. In times of distress we can soon forget the power of the God we serve, but if we take time to read His words we are easily reminded of His awesome power! Job was reminded about the power of the horse. This reminder came in the form of simple rhetorical questions, that made Job think. If we look at God’s creation we see the almighty power of God on display and the only thing we can do in return is praise Him and be uplifted in our hearts. This powerful God we serve promises to never leave us or forsake us, He is greater than any trial that may come our way, so keep on holding on and place your trust in Him. Did you give the horse its strength? and clothed his neck with thunder? Can thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory…    read more
