The children of Israel had strayed away from God and taken up the worship of idols. Jehu was chosen and anointed to clean the idols and all those who worshipped Idols out of Israel. He did, however he did not leave the ways of sin behind. Instead He continued to dishonor God and do wrong in His sight.
And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel. But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jer-o-bo’am, which made Israel to sin. 2 Kings 10:30-31
Once we have come into a new level of intimacy with God through obedience and moving in faith we must not go back to what we used to do. The Lord wants to use us to do great works like He used Jehu. We must be careful not to negate the blessings that we are sure to receive by His Holy hand.
Let me take the opportunity my friend to point out to you that Jehus children were blessed because, He obeyed. We know therefore that our obedience to God now, will assure blessings for our children later. Do you know how many blessings you receive from the Lord because someone in your family obeyed His voice a long time ago. We have the same opportunity like Jehu did; when the Lord anoints us to do a task let us do it with all our might and thereby honor the God we serve. He could choose someone else, it does not have to be you. However, when you are chosen, know that the Lord wants to bless you.
God bless you today, may you obey His voice when He anoints you to do a work in His name. It is my prayer that you will never make the error Jehu did. Instead, continue in the way the Lord leads you, and come into the blessings He has ordained for you before the world began. May His Spirit lead you into a deeper intimacy with Him, through your continued obedience.
Suggested Prayer: Lord, thank you for life eternal. Thank you for choosing to use me the way you have. Give me the strength and integrity not to go back to the way I was before you saved me or follow the ways of those who dishonor you. Let me be a living testimony of what you can do, to others. May your Holy Spirit always remind me that my obedience to you will not only cause you to bless me but also generations to come. Keep me in your way. Amen.
