There are a few things you must know to be saved:
In a nut shell:
You are a sinner under the condemnation of God's Law (Romans 3:10,23).
The bible says that God is holy and we are not. The bible says that all of us have fallen short of the glory of God and that the wages of our sin is death. We do not deserve to go to heaven, we deserve to go to hell. We have a serious problem but, don't want to admit it. God out of Love, sent us something called the Ten Commandments (His Law) to show us that there is no way we could make it to heaven on our own. Here are a couple of them:
1. You shall not lie, ever..., not even once in your life. Have you ever told a lie? If you said no, you have just broken that law again. Therefore you are a liar before God.
2. You shall not steal, if we are honest with ourselves, we have taken something, even once in our lives without permission. That makes us a thief.
3. You shall not use the Lord's name in vain. Today the Lord's name has become a curse word. We've broken that. The Bible says that makes us a blasphemer.
4. You shall not commit adultery. If you think you're gonna get to heaven on your own, you shall never do that. You may think you've never done that one. Really? Jesus said, if you look at another person with lust in your eye, you have committed adultery in your heart.
5. The bible says you shall not murder. This is another one you may think you are safe with. Really? Jesus says that if you hate somebody, you have committed murder in your heart. It's the same as murder in His eyes.
That's just five out of ten commandments - how did you do?
Disobeying only one of these laws, is like disobeying all of them - that is why no matter how good we are, we are still guilty of sin.
We are GUILTY, and deserve to go to Hellfire as punishment for your sins (Romans 3:19; 6:23; Revelation 21:8).
Jesus Christ, God in the flesh (God's Son), died upon the cross to pay for your sins (John 3:16-18; Romans 5:8). It is Jesus' blood that takes our sins away. (1st John 1:7). All we need to do is accept this pardon by faith in Jesus.
1. God loves and cares for you.
"God demonstrates His own love for us that: while we were still sinners Christ
died for us" (Romans 5:8).
"For God so loved the world, that he gave His only Son, that whoever believes
in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16)
2. Like all people, you have a problem-
the Bible calls the problem "Sin"- Sin separates us from God.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
3. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin
and convinces us of the love of God in Jesus Christ.
"And when He comes, He will convict the world of guilt... because they do not
believe on me" .
4. Our response is to:
(a) sincerely repent of sin.
"...for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance"
"...the kingdom of God is near; repent and believe the good news" .
(b) to trust (place faith) in Christ as Savior and Lord.
" That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord, "and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved... Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved"
5. A simple prayer for salvation is the following.
Lord Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner. I believe that you died for my sins and that God has raised You from the died. I repent of my sin, and I ask You to forgive me and save me from sin right now. Thank you for saving me and for giving me eternal life. In Your name I pray. Amen"
(a) Publicly share your faith - "Whosoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven" (Matthew 10:32-33).
(b) Follow the Lord in baptism.- "Those who accepted His message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day" (Acts 2:41).
(c) Join a Bible believing church.- Every new Christian needs to become a member of a Bible believing church where he/she can find new Christian friends and grow in the new life in Christ.
(d) Spend time with God daily. - Every Christian needs to have daily devotional time with God. This time with God should include:
1) Reading the Bible and meditating on what God may be saying to you from the passage.
2) Praying...i.e. talking to God, thanking Him for His blessings, praying for others, telling Him of your needs, seeking His direction for your life.
